Whether you want cheap easy recipes for families, or cheap healthy meals for one, this page has you covered. Here you’ll find links to any recipes mentioned around the blog. There’s lots of recipes below from the TV recaps therefore, and also links to recipes I found to fill any gaps on those shows.
Whether you’re attached to the show in question or not, I hope this page is useful. I’ve split the page into mealtimes, so if you’re stuck for breakfast or lunch/dinner ideas, it should be easy to refer to each section.
I’ve put breakfasts as “Breakfasts etc” as I’m not against breakfast for lunch or dinner. Especially if we’re making the effort to cook anyway. These recipes lend themselves more appropriately to the morning though. There’s also a section for sweet things.
What counts as a cheap healthy meal?
I don’t like the word “healthy” because it’s so subjective. However, most of the recipes below have had a nutritionist’s input and are balanced meals that don’t ignore any food groups. Pile on more veggies and mind the rest of the portions if you’re worried about creating cheap healthy meals for family or yourself.
These recipes should scale if you’re cooking cheap meals for large families. By the same token, batch cooking these cheap eats if you live alone should give you easy meals on a budget for a week or more.
Why have I linked to whole blog posts for some of the recipes? In those blog posts I’ve already wrapped up which recipes are the most versatile if you’re also juggling what to make to freeze or take out the house. It’s enough effort as it is to make a cheap easy healthy meal, but I’ve done half the work for you regards weighing up what travels or preserves well. Some of the recipes are also ideal for sharing or guest occasions.
If I’ve linked to an external site for a recipe, it is still worth checking my blog post that originated the link. I’ll have already made notes about how to make the recipe cheaper. Once I know which recipes everyone is finding most useful, I can give them their own page with all that information in one place.
I will update this page as more blog posts are added. I don’t buy meat personally, so I’m in the process of refining some veggie and vegan versions of the recipes below. Join the mailing list at the bottom of the page to keep track of updates so you always have meal inspiration.
I more often say in my house “What recipe?” I use recipes as a very vague blueprint, so I might create a section to help you improvise if you want. If the quantities are vague in some of the recipes below, it’s because I champion using whatever you’ve got. Let portion sizes or what needs eating up dictate the quantity of certain ingredients instead.
